60 KM

Sat, Sept 25, 2021 - Whistler Alpine Meadows

Date: Sat, Sept 25, 2021
Distance: 60 km / 37 miles
Ascent: 2700 m / 8850 ft
Descent: 2700 m / 8850 ft

Our brand new 60 km route is a full point to point course. Runners begin in Whistler’s Cheakamus Canyon and then enjoy running the length of Whistler along the flanks of Rainbow, Sproatt and Cougar Mountains, before dropping back down to the finish line at Meadow Park.

Along the way, runners will cross multiple suspension bridges while also cruising past a volcanic crater, unique rock formations, remote backcountry lakes, stunningly beautiful forest, and some pretty technical terrain, if we do say so ourselves. The high point on this year’s course is 1500 meters (5000ft), but that will still present runners with gorgeous sub-alpine vantage points across the aptly named Green Lake and the entire community of Whistler, with the Whistler – Blackcomb ski slopes potentially even holding some snow across their peaks in late September. The view from the finish line includes staring up at the nearly 10,000 ft Wedge Mountain (actual 9500ft / 2900m), a nice side project if you find yourself with some unexpected pep in your step in the days following the race.

With this event being held on the back half of September we’ve seen it all, and in 2019 runners were trudging through fresh snow on the upper alpine regions, so ensure you come prepared as it’s an adventurous one, but with plenty of reward throughout. 😊

Start Line, Buses and Parking:

You can have someone drop you off at the start line, but they cannot park near the start line, and no vehicles are to be left on site once the race begins.

Complimentary buses will be running from Whistler Secondary School (WSS) for a 12 minute ride to the start line. We highly recommend catching the first departure, to allow more time for package pickup and a shorter port-o-potty line up.

4:40am: first buses depart WSS, arrive at start at 4:55am
5:20am: second buses depart WSS, arrive at start at 5:35am

Hot coffee will be available before you board the bus. Consider bringing your own coffee mug to cutdown on waste (you could then leave it in your finish line bag). There will be portable toilets at the start line, but not at the school.

Complimentary shuttles back to WSS are also provided post-race.

Aid Stations, Drop Bags and Finish Line Bags:

All races will have finish line bags, which will be under a tent which is not monitored so please label your bag and do not leave any valuables.

60k: drop bags at AS #3 (Function), AS #4 (Rainbow), and AS #5 (19 Mile).

Our aid stations feature all the good stuff courtesy of Nesters Market & Hammer: water, Hammer gel, Heed electrolyte, Coke, chips, fruit, nuts, cookies, soup (weather-dependant), pickles, vegan options and other surprises (each AS is different).

60k: weather dependent *if inclement weather is forecast then a basic mandatory gear list including gloves, buff and waterproof hooded jacket will be enforced*

10 Essentials: We encourage everyone to always carry the 10 Essentials for backcountry safety in your pack - whether you’re out training or adventuring on your own or with friends, or participating in one of our extensively marked races, you can never predict what might happen. Learn more about the 10 Essentials in this article by North Shore Rescue.

In our effort to reduce waste, all our races are now cup-free, meaning you'll need to pack along your own cup for fluids at aid stations and at the finish line. Here are two suggestions: a collapsible cup (available in our merch store), or a homemade version cutting the top off an empty juicebox.
